5 Simple Ways I Prioritize Self Care as a Busy Mom

For a long time, I thought self-care meant spa days or bubble baths. But real life taught me that the little, consistent habits make the biggest difference. Here’s how I intentionally build self-care into my routine with no guilt attached.

1. I Wake Up One Hour Before My Kids
That quiet hour is gold. I sip coffee, plan my day, and gather my thoughts before the chaos starts. It sets the tone for everything that follows.
2. I Treat Exercise Like an Appointment
I move my body at least four times a week however I can. It could be tennis, Pilates, a run or even walking my dog. Do things come up? Of course. But I protect that time the way I would any other important commitment. Some days it means other tasks wait and that’s okay. The benefits outweigh the trade-offs.
3. I Go to Bed Early
I know what my body needs, and being overtired isn’t it. I’ve learned that sticking to an early bedtime makes me a better mom, partner, and version of myself.
4. Give yourself time off
For me, every Friday night, I’m officially “off duty.” No big family dinner. Everyone can grab leftovers, order takeout or choose whatever they want. As a stay-at-home mom, I deserve a day off just like anyone else. This small boundary has saved my sanity.
5. I Budget for Beauty Treatments
Self-care isn’t selfish, and for me, beauty rituals are part of what makes me feel good. Whether it’s a professional treatment or diy, I carve out the time and money. It’s not frivolous; it’s an investment in myself.
Final Thoughts on Self Care
Self-care is all about occasionally allowing yourself to be a priority, which is always so hard for us moms to do when we are accustomed to putting everyone else first. For me, it’s about being intentional with the choices that make me feel grounded and energized. And when I take care of myself, I’m so much better at taking care of everyone else.
